Violent Soho: "In The Aisle"

The Aussie band showcase densely layered guitars and nude bike riding all in one video

It’s hot today. So hot that this morning I looked at my pair of tracksuit bottoms and laughed at the thought of any material grazing anywhere below the kneecap. I hadn’t, however, considered riding my bike naked around town to prevent overheating. Come to think of it, the thought of both scrotums nestling both sides of a bike seat could be kinda gratifying albeit incredibly disturbing for the general public.

Violent Soho may be from Australia, but the sound of “In The Aisle” takes all the best chromosomes from the Smashing Pumpkins’ talented DNA. That means densely layered guitar spazzes and melodic punk drawling but there’s also enough scuzz on show to resemble five days without showering. The band have previously released material through Thurston Moore's label and played ATP in the UK, but now they’re preparing their new album for September via Aussie label, I Oh You (DZ Deathrays). Until London decides to make their views on nakedness more lax, enjoy the visuals alongside some thoughts from the band themselves.

Hi guys! Can you describe your band in a haiku…

Mansfield, Queensland, yes.

Please! Only the chronic, thanks.

Violent Soho.

What's your favourite season and for what reason?

I've never really understood how anyone's favourite season couldn't be summer. Sure it's hot and you sweat a lot. Just take off your clothes, mate!

On that note, have you ever thought about riding a bike around your city nude? What stopped you?

I've thought about it but I don't own a bike pump. My neighbour said I can use his bike, but he doesn't have a pump either. Also, skating is better.

What's the favourite thing on your iPod right now?
White Walls self titled LP from last year. Out on Melbourne label Poison City. Unbelievably good shit!

Favourite cartoon as a child?
Techno Man. Do you fold or scrunch?
Depends on the paper. Probz fold. Would you rather have a dragon or be a dragon?
Be a dragon for sure! Your favourite memory of public transport?
The first time I caught the NY Subway was pretty cool. That's a stretch though. Favourite cuisine?
Pretty much anything Japanese. Sushimi, karage curry, ramen… the list goes on.

Can you make up a dramatic story about how you got into music?
When I was three years old my baby brother stabbed me in the face with a massive knife and I almost died. But he sang me a special song and I didn't die…argh, I can't do it!

What do you think you'd be doing if you had a proper job?
Proper jobs tend to suck balls…sooo…a ball sucking man-slave? Favourite Twitter person to follow?
Ian Rogers from No Anchor is always on the money @ikrogers

Sweet. Thanks Violent Soho!
