“Heave Ho, this love’s too hard”, Mere Women's Amy Wilson sigh wearily over her keyboard on new track “Heave Ho”. Too true Amy, too true. The trio, that also features Katrina Byrne on drums and Flyn McKinniery on guitar, play a taut and tight post punk that brings to mind the tension and bounce of Terrible Truths or downing three consecutive espressos.Mere Women first came to attention a few years ago making a name for themselves in the inner Sydney DIY warehouse/house party/in-store/drinking-long necks-from-paper bag circuit. A record on Tenzenmen, a video recorded on an iPhone and an appearance at New Zealand’s Camp a Low Hum helped establish their name outside Sydney. They’ve now teamed up with Melbourne label Poison City (The Smith Street Band, Harmony) to release their forthcoming second album Your Town.
