Rudi Zygadlo's Video For "Dissident Song" Will Make You Feel Funny in the Tummy

At last something new from the strange brain of Rudi Zygadlo…

"Dissident Song" directed by FACES.

We first fell for electronicist/multi-instrumentalist/singer Rudi Zygadlo via his Planet Mu-released second album,

Tragicomedies:

a delicate blend of baroque piano lines, wonky beat switch ups and prog-ish asides. He was unpredictable, exciting, and sometimes downright strange, which means that two years later we're still enchanted—it still feels like his music unfurls something new with each listen.

That being said, we have been waiting for new material. Last spring the Scotland-born artist was invited to the Red Bull Academy to spend two weeks in New York, hang out in their studios, record and collaborate with a raft of other lucky, handpicked musicmakers. Not to mention some time spent recording with a string quartet (featuring players from the acclaimed Aurora Orchestra). Throughout 2014 he will be self-releasing the fruits of his labor and above is the first offering, the premiere of his video for "Dissident Song."

The liquid-lush piano composition reminds us of French composer Yann Tiersen (most famous for the Amélie soundtrack), meanwhile Rudi's layered, velvety vocals swell up and dissipate like exhaled breath on a chilly autumn night. It's a world away from his first record, Great Western Laymen, which was often mentioned in the same sentence as dubstep.

As for the video? We're guessing it's shot largely off the famous white cliffs of Dover, on the English coastline, a cinematic string out of eerie images that are beautiful in their ambiguity.

Rudi will play Sonar Festival in Spain this June.
