Zoot Woman Gets a Breezy Tech Rework from Michael Mayer

“Don’t Tear Yourself Apart” is techno that will have you swaying in the breeze.

Perhaps because of his many aliases - Jacques Lu Cont, Les Rythmes Digitales, Thin White Duke - Stuart Price's work often gets overlooked in the crowded pantheon of dance music. For those in-the-know, the return of Price's band with Johnny and Adam Blake, Zoot Woman, is a welcome late-summer treat. The outfit's fourth LP, Star Climbing, drops on August 29 through Embassy One. In the meantime, the sunny, electro pop confection of a lead single, "Don't Tear Yourself Apart," is here to melt in your mouth.

Like much of Price's and Zoot Woman's work, the track is a playground for a remixer, with layers upon layers and melodies upon harmonies all begging to be torn out, reconstructed and re-imagined. Kompakt label head and German techno fave Michael Mayer has the best remix of the lot with a chilled-out rendition that somehow increases the intensity of the rhythm while slowing the tempo down. It's a techno masterstroke made possible by a true producer's finely crafted original. When Mayer's synth counter-melody drops halfway through, you're already swaying in the breeze.

"Don't Tear Yourself Apart" is out August 1 on Beatport and everywhere else August 15.
