Wavves Provide a Pure Pop-Punk Blast with "No Shade"

Another new one from 'You're Welcome.'

"Shade" as a term has been adopted by many outside of the black LGBT scene that created it in the 80s. It's a useful descriptor of a specific kind of pettiness, but maybe one that shouldn't be used so flagrantly by those well outside of its community of origin. Or you can just do it anyways, we don't control your life. Wavves' Nathan Williams is a savvy lad, so he's definitely referencing "shade," the slang term, in the title of his band's new single "No Shade."

However, since he's also a man who's long been concerned with fun-in-the-sun pop-punk jams, the song is also literally a condemnation of any umbrellas that aren't inside poolside drinks. It does its bratty thing in less than two minutes, which is some truly fantastic songwriting economy that any good punk ripper needs. Listen to "No Shade" below.
