Happy Birthday, Rivers Cuomo!

A NSFW Tribute to Weezer.

42 years ago today, on the island of Manhattan, Weezer mastermind Rivers Cuomo was born into this world. According to his mother, he was named for the Hudson and East Rivers, the sound of the latter audible in the delivery room. According to his father he was named for three soccer players from the 1970 World Cup: Rivelino, Riva, and Rivera. Either way, Rivers' parents are total hippies—they named his brother Leaves, and moved the family to a farm in upstate New York at the Buddhist Zen Center. At the tender age of 5, Rivers' father split, leaving him with only a nickname that would later become a band name (Weezer, duh) and some daddy issues that Rivers would eventually explore in the song "Say It Ain't So" off of the iconic Blue Album.

So, in honor of Rivers' birth and with Father's Day approaching, we present you this NSFW tribute video for "Say It Ain't So" by fashion photographer Victor Del Toro. Watching a barely dressed model undulating to Rivers' surfy-cum-hair-metal riffs doesn't really play much into the song's themes of abandonment, pain, and loss, but there is something appropriate in the intimate photography for this, one of Weezer's most personal and beautiful jams.
