Louis Tomlinson Finally Catches a Break – Wins Doncaster Kit Design Competition and a Trip to Thailand

Because even a member of One Direction needs a slice of good luck every now and then.

Louis Tomlinson has been blessed with a reasonable amount of good fortune in his 24 years on this earth. While the majority of his contemporaries sit slumped in the corner of rented bedsits, baked beans dribbling down their pyjama tops, wondering where it's all gone so wrong, he finds himself an X Factor success story, a multi-millionaire, and one of the most successful young pop stars on the planet.

He's blessed with good looks, a passable singing voice, and the sort of fluffy, pliable quiff that most of us would kill for. He's even in a position to consider investing in his favourite football club, Doncaster Rovers, and plays for their reserve side by sheer dint of his celebrity.

Still, you can never be too lucky. That's why, when it was announced that Tomlinson had won a fan competition to design Doncaster's 2016/17 away kit, his emoji-based happiness knew no bounds.

Soooooo me and my Grandad Len won the competition of designing the new Donny away shirt. Pretty sick

What are the odds of Tomlinson winning a competition like that? A lot of normal, non-millionaire Doncaster Rovers fans seem to be asking that question. In fact, many seem to think that Tomlinson's win is something of a coincidence, considering his massive international profile and boundless marketing potential. After all, how many people would have written about Doncaster Rovers today if an ordinary fan had won the vote? We certainly wouldn't.

The club have also announced that the lucky winner is due a trip to Thailand – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the average fan. The thing is, Louis Tomlinson is not the average fan. Were he so inclined, he could probably afford to fly around the world, touch down in Thailand, have a shandy in Bangkok airport and then hop back on a Challenger 300 in time to meet Harry Styles at the Café de Paris the very same day. Believe it or not, that is not a lifestyle afforded to the majority of Doncaster supporters.

In fact – and we're just putting this out there – it's hard not to feel that a non-millionaire fan might appreciate the same opportunity rather a lot.

That's the nature of luck, unfortunately. A spokesman for the club has said: "We are aware that the result of the competition has attracted some mixed feedback, but we can assure our fans that the voting process for the shirt designs was all fair and above board".

So there we have it. In an arbitrary world of chance and probability, a member of One Direction is just as likely to win a trip to Thailand as anyone else.
