There's been no shortage of aging hardcore kids turning to slower, more accessible music in recent years. California power-violence heroes Ceremony are now playing Brit-pop influenced post-punk. Title Fight's Hyperview is a departure from the stage-dive ready anthems of their first two albums.

But Philadelphia's Nothing are in a class all their own. This muscular shoegaze band, fronted by Domenic Palermo of Horror Show fame, released two of the best, most moving albums of the genre in recent years. Palermo's life has taken some difficult turns and Nothing's most-recent album Tired of Tomorrow casts issues like addiction, mental illness, and anxiety in layer after layer of heavy, fuzzy dream-pop.
