Sergio Garcia Roars Back, Chokes, And Then Closes In Dramatic Masters Finish

Sergio capitalized and clinched his first green jacket ever. It was nowhere close to boring.

Sergio Garcia has a reputation as something of a choke artist, and today he did not disappoint—that is, until the very final moments in a nail-biting playoff. The Spaniard and England's Justin Rose gave us a back and forth fitting of some Shakespearean-level drama at the 2017 Masters today. But in the end, Sergio was able to shake off what has been a Masters curse, and sank the final putt with another stroke of daylight between him and Rose.

Things really ramped up when Sergio came roaring back as a contender with a phenomenal shot on the 15th hole. It ended up being an eagle, but damn-near was an albatross with a near hole-out. Instead the ball bobbled out, and gave him a clean putt for two under.

But obviously easy putts would soon seem to be the death of Sergio, as he found himself in the position where he only needed to sink a relatively easy putt on the 18th hole after Rose did some choking on his own. (The guy in the pink shirt behind him pretty much summed up how we felt at the time.)

But alas, the playoff would prove to favor Sergio, as Rose ran the ball right into the rough. Not even Rose's best efforts could pull him back. And with one final chance to sink it from 10 feet, Sergio capitalized and clinched his first green jacket ever. Just about as thrilling of an ending that you could ask for.
