Creators Remix Roundup: Spank Rock, Gang Gang Dance, And Brodinski

Shabazz Palaces reinvents “Car Song,” Gang Gang Gang Dance remixes Battles, and Brodinski finds himself in “Lose Yourself.”

Our Creators are a talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always overflowing with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

Spank Rock feat. Santigold: “Car Song” (Shabazz Palaces remix)

Abstract hip-hop project Shabazz Palaces takes Spank Rock and Santigold‘s groovy, upbeat pick-me-up tune “Car Song,” and gives it a new intro, slowing down Santigold’s sexy, not-quite-whiney croon and vamping up Naeem Juwan’s articulation. The distorted effects and glaze-y vocal stylings take the song from whoop-de-do to do me. Stay tuned for a video with Shabazz Palaces at last month’s San Francisco event coming soon.

Battles: “Ice Cream” (Gang Gang Dance remix)

Leave it to Gang Gang Dance to skillfully strip the chaos from Battles’s physically exerting rock jam “Ice Cream.” Predictably spacey, and accented with tribal drums, scratchy synthesizers, 8-bit melodies, and some sort of suction-based percussion, GGD transport us to a gathering of good vibes somewhere in the mountains, where presumably, everyone is eating ice cream.

Surkin feat. Ann Saunderson: “Lose Yourself” (Brodinski remix)

Parisian house musician Surkin’s club jam “Lose Yourself” sounds like it could be in heavy rotation at your local roller rink (if those even exist anymore) because of its late 80s-early 90s influenced instrumentation. Brodinski gives the track an electro injection and a heavy dose of reverberation. Rooftop dance party, he we come.
