Killing It: The Burial Vs. Beyoncé Edition

Bad news at Beatport, the year's best dance memes, and Burial vs. Bey. Time to get your hands dirty with the week's spiciest gossip.

There's enough gossip going around the world of electronic music that it probably deserves its own TMZ, Gawker, and Perez Hilton. We keep track of the drama, the beef, the LOLs, the dramatic build-ups, and the tragic drops so you don't have to. Now, let's see who killed it this week.

IT'S OFFICIAL: SKRILLEX IS EVERYONE'S BEST FRIEND
Fatman Scoop posted a photo of himself in the studio the other day with none other than everyone's favorite hair model, Skrillex (oh, and Kill the Noise). We would make fun of them if we could stop d'awwwing.

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING, BEYONCE JOINED WEIRD TWITTER
Last night, Beyoncé casually dropped an album on iTunes. SURPRISE! After the Internet broke, we learned that the only Internet working was @LiLInternet, who directed Bey's new video for "No Angel." Helping Queen B get one step closer to "weird Twitter."

BURIAL'S REAL "RIVAL DEALER" IS BEYONCE
How mad is Burial about Beyoncé right now? Just when he thought his master plan to spam everyone's Timelines was complete, Bey was like, "Nope! Sorry! This is all mine." Thus putting Burial back in the shadows where he really belongs. So don't forget you can still stream the Hyperdub-released EP right here. You can even play it while you watch the queen's videos with the sound off. Who knows? Maybe some weird Pink Floyd-esque synchronicity will happen.

FLYLO GOES ALL IN
Flying Lotus broke 300,000 followers on Twitter this week and decided that everyone should celebrate. First, he conducted his own Q&A via Twitter. Then, he posted the link to a .ZIP file called "Ideas+Drafts+Loops" with 24 unreleased tracks, including a collab with the late DJ Medhi and a Kanye remix. How many blunts do you think were rolled into this playlist?

BEATPORT'S TOP 10 DANCE MEMES OF 2013
End-of-year lists are often fodder for much eye-rolling (and not much else). But once in a while, a list comes by that's so awesomely stupid that we breathe a sigh of relief. Beatport compiled every ridiculous moment that happened in the DJ world this year—from Nina Kraviz's bathtub scandal to Seth Troxler going Full Monty in a promo video—and we want to thank them for doing God's work. By saving us some work.

BYE BYE BEATPORT
While everyone keeps saying that EDM is "on the rise," Beatport just fired a ton of their engineering staff just before the holidays. While these layoffs included severance packages, the news is still pretty concerning because this year looked like the biggest year for EDM yet. Should we be worried?

LEGALLY HIGH… NO MORE
The BBC reports that the UK will conduct a sweeping review of legal highs this week. Basically, anything that can be bought in head shops to make you feel tingly and weird could be banned to they are "substantially similar" to the chemical structure of illegal substances. This is apparently happening because deaths from legal highs doubled this year in the UK, and according to the BBC, a new substance pops up every week. At least we'll always have the Silk Road. Oh wait.
