The Selfie Files: Solidisco

Dancefloor destroyers Solidisco educate us in the art of Tim Hortons, paninis, and high risk burrito situations.

Welcome to The Selfie Files, a feature in which artists send us selfies and explain them. Here we have Matt and Don of Buffalo, NY duo Solidisco. Their whole MO is CLASSIC HOUSE MUSIC BABY, but like, modernized, but still classic. What this means is they make people dance like lunatics and ride up on each other on the 'floor. We can get with that.

Matt: Our roommate works for the Buffalo Sabres (that's a crappy NHL hockey team for all you non-Canadian/Northern US people). He was working a charity event and for some reason the Sabres thought it would be a good idea to allow him to take home the Buffalo Sabres' mascot costume to use at the benefit. So of course I had to rip this bathroom selfie off real quick. And yes that's a Rick Ross decal in our bathroom mirror—very motivational. We also did other stupid shit with the costume while we had it, including this short piece of film noir that only we apparently thought was funny.

Matt: I can't go to the studio without a trip to Tim Hortons first. A one-and-one coffee at Tim Hortons is more addictive than Jameson and meat-lovers pizza. You have to try it if you're ever up North or in good ol' Canada. If you've never had Tim Hortons, let me put you on to some game. You get a medium coffee and add a shot of hazelnut and espresso, then throw our new single "Top of the World" (out now on Ultra Records. Shameless plug, deal with it.) on your radio. You'll be ready to battle the day. Another pro tip, the Flatbread Maple Breakfast Panini with sausage is the greatest thing to come out of Canada since Canada Goose Parkas and "Started From the Bottom." A must try.

Matt: I took this arm selfie in LA last year before our set at HARD: Day of the Dead. The rest of my body was contemplating whether it was a good idea to dominate a burrito and risk having bowel issues while performing in front of 5000+ people. I chose the burrito and still survived through the set (which you can listen to here).

Don: After one of our flights I landed to a random picture message of two kids together bowling. Obviously a wrong number, I figured I'd creep them out with a really odd selfie and just give them a friendly "Howdy." Wish I could have seen the reaction!

Don: One of the worst airline experiences we've had in our careers so far traveling would be our trip down to Florida. Saturday morning was spent dealing with a canceled flight out of Buffalo, and we ended up sitting at an airport diner on our laptops looking for an alternative flight, we overheard from a nearby family we could actually fly out of Niagara Falls (which in years of traveling quite often, I had no idea). Long story short, when our flight back to Buffalo got delayed Matt and I were kind of dreading going back to the airport not even 24 hours later. Matt's JetBlue app said the flight was 8PM, mine said it was 11pm. Calling them, the hold time was over an hour. We decided to say fuck it and go to Universal instead.

Don: Had to flex a little here and give you a snap of some of my sneakers. Something with DJs and sneakers—I feel like a lot of DJs are sneakerheads. My bedroom at home is real minimal and my shoes take up well over half of my room. I'm not nearly as serious as some, but I'm always growing the collection. Got a little of everything, but my favorites are the obvious retro Jordans as well as Dunk SBs. I've also got a bunch of Roshes, Air Max 90s, and 1s, a few AF1s and some random stuff I've bought while traveling over the years. My personal favorite I own are my 88 White Cement Jordan 3s, but that's liable to change. NY weather's been killing me though, I won't be taking those out of the box again for at least another two months. Matt and I both are always checking the best sneaker spots before our shows when we travel.

Solidisco play Slake in NY this Saturday, (2/5). Get in free before midnight if you RSVP here.
