FIDLAR's Made us a Mixtape of Stuff we Wouldn't Expect FIDLAR to put on a Mixtape

FIDLAR make great punk music soundtracking adventures that you're probably too drunk to remember in the morning. We wanted to find out what they play to each other on tour instead of y'know sleeping, so we got them to make us a playlist of their favourites. They brought the growly voice of Tom Waits, the country stylings of Townes Van Zandt and psychedelic weirdoes The Flaming Lips together for the mix and it meshes pretty well showing a whole new side to the band.

We also got the band to tell us a little bit about each track.

Tom Waits --- "Shake It"

"A critic once said Waits' voice sounds, "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." I think that rings true on this track."

The Orwells --- "Lays At Rest"

"We're doing a fall tour in the U.S. with these dudes. They're definitely way more talented and cooler than I was when I was 18. The hook in this song is great."

Metz --- "Wasted"

"We saw them play for the first time at a festival in Holland and we were all blown away. Such a good band and the coolest dudes. We ended up meeting after their set and drank A LOT of whiskey and been homies ever since. Hayden (the drummer) also have wolverine blood in him, as do I."

Deftones --- "Minerva"

"One of my favorite bands growing up. Just saw them recently in Detroit and they were just as good as they were 10 years ago. This song is heavy!! R.I.P. Chi Cheng"

Townes Van Zandt --- "Waiting Round To Die"

"This song is the first song he wrote after getting married for the first time, which is pretty depressing. Such a good song though."

The Damned --- "Born to Kill"

"Our tour manager in Europe works with these guys and we're always trying to get stories of him about The Damned. Haven't seen them yet but hopefully we can convince our tour manager to let us open for them."

The Joneses --- "Pill Box"

"Elvis and Max's dad played in this band back in the day and then eventually Max and Elvis fill in for a few shows as well, which is cool as fuck."

Eagles of Death Metal --- "San Berdoo Sunburn"

"This is one I almost always listen to when heading east out of L.A. into the desert (which is where San Bernadino is)."

A.A. Bondy --- "Killed Myself When I Was Young"

"One of my favourite current songwriters. I've been listening to "American Hearts" nonstop for awhile now. Check him out if you haven't already, chill vibes for sure."

The Flaming Lips --- "The Spiderbite Song"

"Just recently saw a video about the making of "Soft Bulletin" and they were saying that this song is about Stephen Drozd (of Flaming Lips) telling everyone that his infection from shooting heroin was a "spiderbite", which I never knew and it totally changed this song for me."
