PREMIERE: The Dandy Warhols Return Continues with "STYGGO"

No one does loungey insouciance quite like Courtney Taylor-Taylor.

Salutations The Dandy Warhols! Welcome back to the fray. We've loved you such a long time, since all the way back in the mid-90s when you dropped the unimpeachably awesome "Not if You Were the Last Junkie on Earth" (aided and abetted by its David LaChapelle-directed video, which featured dancing syringes, natch). And yes of course there was 2000's "Bohemian Like You" when we had to share you with everyone else. No one does wry, sonic insouciance quite like you guys.

There have been other moments of musical mastery since then (revisit "The Last High" for one; if you haven't watched Dig! then WTF, do so immediately), but it's been four years since their last full length. Last month they surprised us all by returning with "You Are Killing Me," which found the Portland quartet working an upbeat indie-pop angle, along with the news that they had a ninth album up their sleeves: Distortland comes out on April 8 via Dine Alone Records. Below is the premiere of the second song from said LP, "STYGGO" (a.k.a. "Some Things You Gotta Get Over")—a hypnotic strut of a song, that never quite peaks so much as lures you with singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor's vocals low and lulling in the mix. They're urging you to lean in that little bit closer.

Of the track, Taylor-Taylor says: "Some things you can't get over. Some things you gotta get over. The world is full of corporate billionaire scumbags who pollute the earth, kill wildlife, cause cancer, secretly running nations into the ground, and the moronic masses who just agree with their mindless slogans‎ and will never fight the good fight to help to stop them until finally the last blistered blind three armed mutant dregs of humanity eat each other's putrid flesh in mankind's final nauseating death throws… High ho, some things you gotta get over."

Apparently the entire record was recorded in Taylor-Taylor's basement on an 80s cassette recorder and mixed by Jim Lowe (who's worked with Taylor Swift and Beyoncé). Is it lo-fi psych-rock with some spit and pop polish? Hard to tell from these two tracks, but we'll be listening out in earnest, and in the meantime here's "STYGGO."
