Royal Headache – ‘Carolina’

Shogun channels the spirit of Gene Kelly and discovers Sydney’s only working public phone on the first video from Royal Headache’s new album 'High'.

“Carolina’ is one of the slower and more introspective tracks from Royal Headache’s highly anticipated second album High. It’s about as close to a ballad that the Sydney four-piece get and like most songs on the album, front man Shogun’s voice is front and centre.

The video is almost as cool as the song.

Basically what happens is the band is jamming in a practice room and Shoges is getting all hyped and then kind of goes, “Fuck this I’m taking a break”. Law’s face is all, “Oh shit, where is he going this time?”

But it works out OK.

Shogun just takes a stroll around the neighbourhood, does this sick kick jump off a wall, drops into a bottle shop to grab a longy, visits the monolithic water tower pictured on the High album cover and meets a girl. He also miraculously finds Sydney’s only working public telephone.

It’s just a typical day in Sydney’s inner west really. But look closely at the 1:20 minute mark and you will see a symbol of all that is now wrong with the inner west.
