Sampha Finally Released the Drake-Less Version of "Too Much"

The Video Is Just Him Playing Piano, But You'll Need to Hear This.

Sampha has finally released his version of "Too Much," sans Drake, although the track first appeared on

Nothing Was The Same

. In the liner notes of Drake's recent album, the original track—written by Sampha and produced by Emile Haynie—is listed as a sample, but was nowhere to be found. The two have linked up previously, of course, on "The Motion," and Drake remixed “Wildfire” by SBTRKT (Who Sampha has worked with in the past).

OVO producer Nineteen85 flipped the beat on the Drake-assisted version, but the acoustic version with Sampha is an entirely new vibe, with his soft vocals floating over the piano. It's incredible to hear his voice hit entirely unrealistic octaves but it's all part of his beautifully unadorned sounds.

His solo EP Dual, was released in late July via Young Turks, and is easily one of the most impressive projects of the past year. You can listen to Sampha's Soundcloud for more, including his single, "Indecision."
