Premiere: Gentleworms’ Dingy One-Shot Video Is A Perfect Match to Their Minimalist Garage Pop

The Adelaide three-piece write busted garage pop and individually illustrate each cassette cover. Yeah, that kind of band.

Gentleworms are Joe Baby, Dingo and Viktor Stiks, a trio of Adelaide chaps who write busted pop songs with titles like "Alcoholic Racing Car Driver" and cover songs like Skip James’ “Crow Jane”. They release cassettes with individually hand painted covers and record in dingy rooms with equipment that can only be called lo-fi.

There’s probably a band like Gentleworms in your hometown.

The video for “Pearl Brain” the opening track on their debut cassette Number One Beat was shot in one take by Alex Gordon-Smith. Set in a gloomy band room it features all three members dressed in woman’s clothing and playing various instruments. It’s kinda spooky and a little off, just like their minimalist garage pop.

'Number One Beat' is available now through Cheap Nasty.
