Oh hey. You've entered Insult to Injury, the place where the Noisey editors play Friday afternoon DJ with the songs they've been listening to all week. Here's the soundtrack to our lives at the gates of the portal of Newofficeland.

White Lung - "Snake Jaw"

Much like everyone else in the universe, I love Future, and I LURVE

But everyone else is going to pick songs from it to write about—they'll talk up the romance of "I Be U," the sheer triumph of the internal rhymes on "Benz Friendz (Whatchutola)," the pathos of "Blood, Sweat, Tears," the sheer turnup of Casino's verse on "Move that Dope," etc. But I gotta say the song I've been listening to the most this week is the new banger from White Lung, which makes me want to do that dumb invisible pull-up hands dance you're supposed to do to rap music. And at two minutes, it's way shorter than listening to the entire Future album, too. But listen to both. Seriously.

The Menzingers - "My Friend Kyle"

Earlier this week the Menzingers released their new album

Rented World

. Because Dan Ozzi cries and cries about how great this band is—and his crying is just piled on top of many other people I know crying and crying about how great this band is—I figured I should give them a listen, because it's my duty as a producer of internet content related to music that I should consume all content related to music. Turns out, this content is pretty sick. Their album is a charming blend of pop punk goodness (if that's the wrong kind of description, Dan, I'm sorry), and I thought I'd pick to highlight "My Friend Kyle" in honor of my real friend, Kyle Kramer, who is our weekend editor (Hi, real life friend Kyle!). Anyway, this whole record sounds like summer and drinking a beer on a patio and I love it.

Tom Vek - "Sherman (Animals in the Jungle)"
Tom Vek's voice is as flat as the pan I fry my morning egg in. He sounds permanently blah blah bored, but I LOVE HIM because his music is full of sharp angles and this song is spiky, urgent, and punctuated by a recurring sound effect that makes me think of a cartoon character who can shoot lightning from their hands. How good would that superpower be? "I WILL SMITE YOU IF YOU COME TO CLOSE PLEBEIAN!" Last time we all had to wait six years between Vek's first and second album which I thought was pretty mean. Not so for his third record, Luck, which comes out June 9 via Moshi Moshi. I've heard it and it's incredible. ♥ you Tom Vek.

P.S. Try and ignore the fact that this is a lyric video, because lyric videos are, without fail, extremely lame.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring - "Which Way To Go"
I have so many sick records in my iTunes right now that it's a total conundrum figuring out what to listen to next. It's the best problem to have ever, but at one point last night I couldn't decide and said fuck it, I'm going with something older and reliable. Which is why I went with Eddy Current Suppression Ring, the fucking amazing Australian garage-punk outfit that eventually lead to Total Control (one of the rippers in my iTunes). Goddamnit, what a band. R.I.P.

Future - "I Be U"
Future’s Honest came out early this week, meaning that the majority of people who made him so popular are already over it. It’s no secret that Future was created by the united hipster movement in order to destroy rap from the inside to make more room for Macklemore. The first step was releasing this album, the second step involves having it stocked at Starbucks so that innocuous white people can buy it. They stopped letting me into the meetings after I shaved my beard, so I’m not super clear on what the third and final step was, but I remember hearing the term “cleanse” come up a lot. But in all seriousness, “I Be U” is the perfect Future song. It has soul, electronic influences, singing, a nonsensical title, etc. It also sounds really good, but people don’t care about that shit.

Gucci Mane x Young Thug - "Ride Around The City"
Well, yeah, I was listening to Future all week. I'm convinced that "I Be U" is the most beautiful song ever made and "Blood, Sweat, Tears" is the most inspiring—and that's keeping all the other amazing inspirational songs about his come-up Future has in mind. But let's talk about the guy who is maybe the next Future, but also possibly the next Gucci Mane: Young Thug. Thugga has so much buzz right now and two of the biggest and best songs of the year ("Stoner" and "Danny Glover"). There's a case to be made that he should be capitalizing on this moment by doing something really carefully thought out and put together. But the appeal of Young Thug is his complete unpredictability (in a way that is far more Gucci Mane than Future), so naturally he made this seemingly tossed-off project with Gucci, Young Thugga Mane La Flare, complete with two-faced cover. It's neither's best work. But it is appropriately off-the-wall and has all kinds of sneaky hooks, especially on this song, where Young Thug's singing makes me want to go out and buy a car immediately. Seriously, car brands: Get Thugga out of his terrible record deal quagmire and just throw him like a mil to license this hook. You will sell so many fucking Kias or whatever (if you're a representative for another car brand, sub your own company's name in for Kia; obviously you don't want to sell Kias, and I get that, Mr. Chrysler). And Gucci Mane, as always, is a genius (I mean…"The bag so heavy when we shop she be draggin the shit"? I just went out and bought like six pairs of pants I was so inspired).
