Twin Steps is The Beach Boys and Ariel Pink‘s 16-year-old misunderstood lovechild. Yeah, that teenage baddie who steals his uncle’s Harley and adventures to California to “find himself” after his harlot girlfriend, Ramona, leaves him for his archnemesis, Johnny Q. Or in a more unspecific sense, Twin Steps is a garage-rock band blending 60s soul with 80s angst, creating a new strain of “I’m so sad. Dance with me, mysterious stranger who also looks sad.”This Oakland-based foursome is currently on tour in support of their upcoming seven-inch, Plague Songs, due 8/13. In the meantime, check out their B-side “Century Home” and cry-dance yourself to sleep or ponder-pout your way to California.
