Goalkeeper Hit in Head with Flare During Montenegro-Russia, Match Suspended

A European Championship qualifier was suspended when Russian keeper Ivan Akinfeev was hit in the head with a flare thrown from the crowd.

A European Championship qualifier between Montenegro and Russia was suspended just seconds into the match when a lit flare thrown from the stands hit the Russian keeper Igor Akinfeev. The incident occurred roughly 20 seconds after kickoff and Akinfeev had to be taken off the pitch on the stretcher. The remaining players were taken off the field and the match was suspended.

This isn't the first time players have been hit with flares, or worse, but this should serve as a reminder that these are actually people playing down there. Hopefully Akinfeev is OK, and whoever threw it considers going the paper airplane route next time they feel like throwing something on the pitch.
