Big Deal's New Song "Veronica" Will Make Your Heart Go Boom

The London boy-girl duo drop their first new song since last year's stellar second record 'June Gloom.'

Last summer Big Deal released a stunning second album, June Gloom (via Mute). They took the spare, largely acoustic template from debut record, Lights Out, and beefed up their heart-achingly gorgeous songs with a full band and heaps of distortion. It proved that made up London-born Alice Costelloe and California's Kacey Underwood had more in them than the uncomfortable hush of "Talk" and "Homework": they could really—excuse the phrase—rock out. Take those boomy drums and layered vocals of "Dream Machines" as evidence.

"Veronica" is premiering above, and it's their first song off their forthcoming third full length. The 90s fuzz is still in place, the tugging melancholy as they sing, "You get the best of it all…," packs all the power of first love. Is this a break up song? Are they singing about Veronica from Heathers? Did they both date Veronica and now she's ditched them and run away with their cat? Who knows, but the slow build and wig out just after the four minute mark is an unexpected thrill. Is that Jimmy Chamberlin on the drums, because this song's finale is huge.

We can only assume this a taster of what's to come and if so, their third record is going to be awesome.
