PREMIERE: Horrendous' New Song "Acolytes" Is Pure Death Metal Aggression

A model in how to push death metal forward.

Horrendous is a death metal band out of the east coast that plays pummeling, genre-pushing tunes that you can fuck shit up to all night. Their new record, Anareta is their third in a trio of crushing and engaging old-school death metal albums from the new school. "Acolytes" is an interesting song in particular, because in seven minutes it shows everything death metal is capable, and then some. The song stalks to a start, guitars vibrating and setting the anticipation for the riffs and power to come in the track. Soon it gets to that point, becoming a super loud, in your face grind through the best sort of death metal riffing. As it continues and solos its way into glory, it hits a peak and manages to sound almost uplifting, without being corny or anything like that. It's an emotion and strength able to show its way through the music without compromising the genre's purity. You can't kill death metal, and you can't kill Horrendous.
