CSS Premieres Dre Skull's Lush, Dubbed-Out "Hangover" Remix

Dre Skull soundtracks your approaching summer hangover with this remix of "Hangover," on which he strips away the track's sonic ornamentation and bumps up the lush, reverb-laden dub DNA.

On June 11, CSS delivered Planta, their fourth album of idiosyncratic electronic music. On the single “Hangover,” the band fused dub, tropicália, and noise into one trippy package. For his remix, Dre Skull strips away much of Dave Sitek's sonic ornamentation and bumps up the song's lush, reverb-laden dub DNA. If there is a single song that will soundtrack your fast-approaching summer hangover, this will be it.

Dre Skull had this to say about the remix:

“I was given complete freedom to explore with this remix, so it was a joy to approach this less as a remix and more as if I had been asked to do the original production of the song. To start the process, I listened to each element of the original version and quickly found that I was drawn to the vocal harmonies. After spending some time with the vocals, I was really hearing a slowed down vibe and decided accentuate a halftime feel. I also liked the playful, dubby feel of the original production, and having been a longtime fan of bands like The Flying Lizards that where experimental with strong dub influences, I really took that idea as a guide to explore a dreamy, dubbed out soundscape while trying to keep the core of a catchy pop song embedded within.”
