Natur is comprised of Weibust, Dino Destroyer, the Mexicutioner, and Tooth, four friends that have been making music together since 2008. The band exploded out of the New York underground on the strength of a self-titled, self-distributed CD-R demo. They recall fellow US acts like Metallica and Anthrax, but their hearts truly lie with the eighties British scene. You may have heard of Motörhead, Saxon, Iron Maiden, or Witchfinder General, but unless you’re an avowed metal head you probably haven’t used the NWOBHM acronym. That’s “New Wave of British Heavy Metal” for the casual metal listener, and it’s where Natur culls much of its inspiration.
Back home in Brooklyn, Natur are part of an eighties-obsessed metal tribe that’s quietly on the rise. They came to Brooklyn by way of Rhode Island, and continue to straddle the Ocean State and New York scenes. Contemporaries like Nightlore, Demassek, and Total Social Suicide have found a home in Brooklyn, with venues like the Acheron, Europa, and Union Pool hosting dedicated metal nights more regularly in the past few years.
Noisey met Natur at the 2010 Live Evil Festival. They were the only US act at the two-day event, but the size of the crowd proved that there remains a real appetite for the classic sounds of eighties metal.
