NOISEY 071: BODI BILL

For the electronic scene at least, Berlin in the middle-aughts had hit a dead end, stuck in the reductive muck of prissy minimal techno. Bodi Bill emerged in this climate, a group of three friends determined to swing their city’s signature sound back to something palatable.

By now, they’ve released three records, all issued through Berlin’s Sinnbus Records. Each LP is a document of their perpetual development as a band. There was no sophomore, junior, or senior slump for these guys. Best of all, they remain a curious, mutable band. That, as well as the heavy conceptualism of their live act, isn’t really surprising coming from three former art students.

The group’s DIY enthusiasm, informed integration of pop cultural references, and infectious charm has inspired a growing fanbase. At this point they’ve nearly outgrown Berlin, emerging as one of the more exciting acts in Germany.
