NOISEY 151: BEATY HEART

Date: 2012-02-16 | Venue: Old Blue Last | Location: London, UK

Beaty Heart

Beaty Heart is three dudes from Peckham (a neighborhood in Southeast London) who formed at Goldsmiths College in 2010. Their sound is reminiscent of Animal Collective’s spaced-out riffage, and even the music videos are swooning in an ethereal ocean. The video for “We’re All Friends Here” features four minutes of neon sea anemones overlapping whales, brightly colored flowers, and other underwater flora and fauna.

A self-proclaimed “psychedelic drum pop” outfit, most members of Beaty Heart play percussion. Flushing out their sound with harmonies and sample work, the trippy drummers come together to create soothing, hypnotic drone-pop that’s totally danceable and serene. The “Slush Puppy/Cola” EP, released through Worry Free Records, sounds like the soundtrack to your next lucid dream or dolphin dance party.
