Dapuntobeat
Mexico City’s Dapuntobeat spent the last eight years honing funk-infused electro bangers, perfecting a mix of sample and synth-laden electronic dance music backed by steady drums. The band takes its cues from the house-influenced grooves of Ed Banger Records and the modern-classic techno of Daft Punk.
In 2006, Dapuntobeat recorded and released “Velodrom” on their homegrown label Sonido Chivaltraco. The next release saw the band remixing songs from Mexican rock ‘n’ roll acts of the 1960s. In 2010, Violenta Records released entitled “Off De Record,” an album of 13 new Dapuntobeat songs.
The band’s sole intent is to get audience members out of their seats and onto the floor. In a 2010 interview, the band’s synth player Jose Marquez quipped that DPB’s shows are known for “making people go crazy.”
The last ten years has seen a shift in the Mexico City scene, from dance and DJs to straight up rock ‘n’ roll music. As a group situated between these two genres, DPB is perhaps the perfect ambassador for contemporary Mexican music. No doubt Dapuntobeat’s double threat helped them land spots at SXSW, the Way Out West Festival, the Mexico Now Festival, and FIB. They even earned a spot on EA Sports’ “FIFA 2011.” For a band that seeks to drive their audience bananas, it’s hard to imagine a better endorsement
