Fucked Up

Every spring we can't help but buy into old cliches about summer in the city. We're all champing at the bit to roll around town in a tank top on a cruiser bike with an ice cream in one hand and an IPA in the other on our way to a backyard barbecue with sunglasses on. Then July hits, and we're peeling skin from radioactive sunburns and trying to get the smell of hot garbage off our sweat-stained clothes.

In the summer months, it's important to remember the things that actually exist in reality. One of those things is the Vans House Parties, presented by FYF Fest, which kicked off on June 27 in New York City with a performance from Canadian hardcore punks Fucked Up. We got our buddy Tim Harrington, the weird yelpy guy who fronts Les Savy Fav, to take Fucked Up's singer Damian Abraham to Peter Pan's Donuts, the best donut shop in Brooklyn. The pair discussed head-butting, bad shows, and reenacted the Lady and the Tramp spaghetti scene with a bear claw.

The Vans House Parties are continuing all summer, as is our coverage of them. If you live nearby you should come out and look for us at the shows—we'll be the ones with the hospital bracelets on.
