Sucking Down Some Back Yard Brews With ScotDrakula

The Melbourne three piece cut loose on the premiere of their new video for "O'Clock".

Every hour is beer o’clock for Melbourne three piece ScotDrakula. Their new video for “O’clock” has them swilling cans and doing some cool back porch dancing. And check that fridge. That thing was just made for backyard parties.

But it’s not just the Melbourne Bitter giving them a warm fuzzy feeling. Check that organ too. The first official taste of their debut album, recorded by Nick Hoare and due later this year has Evi, Matt and Dove taking on a more rootsy edge to their energetic and punky indie rock.

We caught up with lead vocalist Matt Neumann to find out more about beers in the backyard.

Noisey: Where did you score that fridge?
Matt Neumann: Dove made it! It's connected to his home brew kegs so there's an endless supply of awesome beer and there's nothin that evil Dean can do about it!

How much beer did you get through that day?
1000 cans.

Who of you can drink the most beer?
Dove is the professional beer drinker. It's actually his job to drink beer. Seriously. I'm a lightweight but can drink the fastest and Evi is the most fun to be around while drunk.

Who of you has the best drunk dance moves?
I always has the best dance moves. Drunk or sober.

The organ automatically gives the song a more country/rootish sound. Is this a new direction you are heading in?
There were tons of beautiful toys lying around the studio when we were in there recording and Nick happened to press play whilst we were mucking around on them. Some ended up on the record. That's how the Rhodes got there. We're hoping Dolly Parton will join us on this album tour but we're still waiting to hear back from her.

What do you have coming up?
Our first LP, gigs and touring, new dance moves, more home brew.

ScotDrakula play the Blurst of Times Festival on Friday 18th October in Brisbane, and Saturday 19th October in Melbourne.

Their double single launch at the Northcote Social Club on Monday October 27th, with Steve Miller Band and PLY | ERS (previously named McBain).
