I'm from Providence, Rhode Island, so I've come to see the Renaissance City's noise-rock elder statesmen Lightning Bolt as my birthright. But I'm also a percussionist, so I've come to see their drummer, Brian Chippendale, as my hero. Brian's solo project is called Black Pus: He put out his first record, Primordial Pus, back in 2011. "1000 Years," the video above, is from his second effort, All My Relations, which is coming out through Thrill Jockey March 19.
The video is composed of drawing that Chippendale put together in middle school. According to Chippendale,
The flip books were drawn probably in 4th or 5th grade. There are nearly 1000 pages. The cover of the books usually said 'adventurer' on them. Me and friends at the time all drew flipbooks. I remember sitting on the back porch of my house working on them.
You can pre-order All My Relations right here, and the first 100 orders will also receive a tri-color, hand-numbered, screen printed comic by Brian Chippendale himself. Also, if you live in the United States of America, you can check him out on tour this May:
