Communist Daughter - "Ghosts"

F*ck "fauxlk"—this is a real, plucked-from-a-grain-silo-cum-ad-hoc-practice-space-somewhere toe-tapper.

When we first heard Minneapolis' Communist Daughter, we thought the folk pop collective sounded like they had been plucked from a grain-silo-cum-ad-hoc-practice-space somewhere, wheat straw still dangling lazily from their lips. What we also noticed was that, as opposed to others in the clump of bands desperately trying to ride in the post-Fleet Foxes/Bon Iver fauxlk (that would be "faux folk") wake, these guys sound tight as hell—as though they actually finally put down the homebrew and hauled themselves to band practice.

So it came as no surprise when, after digging a little deeper into the band's background, we found out that Communist Daughter owes its existence to singer-songwriter Johnny Solomon's struggles with addiction and subsequent recovery, aided by collaborator-turned-fiancée Molly Moore.

Now clean and sober, Solomon, Moore, and their crew of supporting musicians are ready to release their Lions & Lambs EP, out July 10th on Grain Belt Records. Check out the lush, glistening "Ghosts" below:
