Fifty Years of Bowie's Hair and 35 Years of Prince's Hair Condensed Into a GIF

Everybody knows a musician's true power lies in his or her hair. Over a year ago we published an article that charted David Bowie's musical evolution through his ever-shifting hairstyles. It was informative, it was exhaustive, it featured many epic shots of Bowie and his follicular transformations. Out of respect we tried to avoid speaking about his hair in the 90s, but it was unavoidable. "Soul patches, gross goatees, hair rampaging down his face like ill-advised landing strips, and hair that looked like Playdoh," we wrote. Ugh. We blamed Trent Reznor.

In any case, illustrator Helen Green sketched out these gorgeous shots of King Bowie to celebrate his recent 68th birthday (we came across this gif. via thisiscollossal). They are amazing combined, but you can also buy them as separate prints. Great gift idea! And she's also done a bunch of sweet illustrations of Gaga, Lorde, First Aid Kit, and more.

While spiraling down the Bowie-hair rabbit hole, we also came across this gif. (via kotekke), illustrated by Gary Card, which condense 35 years of Prince. This also reminded us of this piece we published about Prince's style over four decades. He's the only man who can wear Cuban heels. Or ruffled pirate shirts. Or a thong, a studded blazer, a neck bandana, and THAT'S IT. He invented sex, dontcha know. Bow down.
