Races - "Lies" (Official Premiere)

New Music

From the outside, suburban life is easy-peasy: white picket fences, immaculately trimmed lawns, kids who say things like "I'm going out to play ball!" and "I love you, mom and dad!" Picture-perfect Americana. But with the new video for Races' dreampop single "Lies," frontman Wade Ryff exposes the toxicity that insularity can breed, and what turmoil lies beneath the squeaky-clean facade.

"Once again we teamed up director Edward Chase Masterson, who directed our previous music video for "Big Broom." It was sort of surreal shooting this video for a number of reasons; for one, it was shot in the suburbs most of us grew up in, not even a mile from the the Sears dressing room in which I graduated from a teenager to a man (or so I thought).

But also because there became this sense that we had entered the belly of the beast that feeds on the paranoia of those living in a lie. The irony of such an idealistic and peaceful neighborhood being inhabited by residents who seemed so scared to live there was something that really spoke to some of the most recent social issues that abstractly inspired this video."

"Lies" comes off of Races' debut LP, Year of the Witch, which you can snag now from Insound or iTunes.
