NOISEY 109: NEW HOUSE

The New House formed in the Shinjuku section of Tokyo in 2008, comprised of five rural émigrés that had recently relocated to the city. They named their project to mark their circumstance—the teeming metropolis was their new home. Just don’t expect them to settle down any time soon.

They fired out the gate with “Kill The House,” a seven-inch released through Second Royal Records. New House became the go-to openers for the Japanese tours of American mainstays’ like Black Lips and the Vivian Girls, eventually travelling to the states themselves for South By Southwest in 2010.

Succinct and punchy, the New House has mastered a sense of frenetic urgency, that holy grail of the best punk rock. They’ve done so without taking themselves too seriously. Check the vocals on their recent single, “This Is My Story”: “This is my story, don’t take it too seriously. It’s only my dream, play the guitar, release records, let’s keep on going as long as we can.”
