Spacemen 3 - Big City 7" (1989)
These space rock heroes did a lot of great things with their record covers. A year after this single came out, they released Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To. I think something similar could be said about their intentions for this cover.
Op art (or optical art) is a style of visual art that creates optical illusions. This can be really interesting as well as really, really sickening. Here are a few of my favorite examples of op art used on album covers. I apologize in advance for the headache.
