È capitato diversi mesi fa, in inverno, che fossi andata con mio moroso a Londra a trovare una mia carissima amica che vi si era trasferita da pochi mesi. Erano i primi di gennaio e non c'era un cazzo di niente in giro la sera, perlomeno non roba di mio diretto interesse. Mi ricordo pure che poco prima di partire di aver scritto su Twitter una roba tipo "Suona qualcuno di utile a londra a inizio gennaio? Credici" non ricevendo ovviamente risposta perché cagarmi è sempre vietato.Ho capito che mi sarei fidata di mio moroso quando ci ha comunicato che una delle prime sere avrebbe suonato un gruppino shoegaze postpunk tenebrosello chiamato Dressmaker, in zona Camden. Dei suoi gusti musicali mi fido molto—non ci sono parole però per esprimere la mia indignatio quando dice che gli fa cagare Don Capucino—e me ne sono fottuta se lì per lì una tale descrizione aveva rievocato in me gli anni in cui ero solita appendere le foto degli Smiths in camera e chiamarmi "She's a Carnival" su MSN.Considerando che ho mille complessi riguardo al mio periodo postpunk, il fatto che quella sera mi siano garbati in maniera esemplare e abbia anche scapocciato, l'ho ritenuto di grandissimo prestigio.Quest'oggi capita che i bravi Dressmaker facciano uscire il loro primo EP, Glass che ci hanno amabilmente regalato in streaming qua sotto. Dalle mail che ci siamo scambiati è venuto fuori che i quattro si sono formati solo un anno fa a Londra Est, hanno influenze per l'appunto noise, shoegaze, postpunk e psych e, suonando in giro per Londra, si sono subito fatti riconoscere come una delle band dai live più potenti della scena. Sono usciti due video di due pezzi dell'EP, che tra l'altro sono abbastanza sicura abbiano suonato per intero quella sera. Se ve li volete guardare sono "The Future" e "Skeleton Girl", però prima vi consiglio di sentirvi l'EP qua sotto, autoprodotto e registrato a casa, a zero spese."Gli unici soldi che abbiamo speso sono stati quelli per spostare gli amplificatori in giro per Londra e quindici sterle per del sidro di mele, usato durante le riprese di "The Future".I Dressmaker sono: David Lopez (chitarra), Charles Potashner (vocals), Tom Fanthorpe (basso) e Ben Jack (batteria)._________This winter i was with my boyfriend in London, to visit a lovely friend of mine that had recently moved there, which I missed so much. It was the first week of January, nothing to do at night, at least nothing i really cared of in terms of gigs/events. A few days before leaving I remember having asked on Twitter about any cool gig in town, but never got answers from anyone, ‘cause it’s ok not to consider me.I had to trust my boyfriend when he said that one of our first nights in London, a shoegaze postpunk darkish band would have performed somewhere in Camden. Their name was Dressmaker. I usually trust my boyfriend’s tastes in music—except when he says he hates Don Capucino—and didn’t give a fuck if, from that description of Dressmaker, my only thoughts were brought back in the days when I used to have my room full of The Smiths’ photos or “She’s a Carnival” as MSN nickname.I've always had this weird complex about my postpunk age, so it was kinda touching for me, that night, having headbanged and truly loved that live. It felt like I was finally turning normal.Today these four mates are releasing their first EP, Glass, which they gently gave us as a present, on our Soundcloud down here. I talked to them by mail and found out that formed last year in East London, have these noise, postpunk, psych influences and already played a lot of gigs on the whole underground East London music scene. This quickly gave them a reputation for being one of the loudest, noisiest and most intense live bands around. A couple of videos are on Youtube, both of them from the EP: "The Future" and "Skeleton Girl”. But first I’d recommend the stream of Glass, which they have recorded, mixed, produced, and mastered completely on their own, no cash spent."The only cash spent on recording Glass was taxi fare for moving amps around London and £15 for some K Cider to make a music video for "The Future."Dressmaker are: David Lopez (guitar), Charles Potashner (vocals), Tom Fanthorpe (bass guitar) and Ben Jack (drums).
