Dolores
Did you know that “Dolores” is the Spanish word for PAIN?!?!?!?!
Seriously, it is. But even though Dolores may have taken their name from that heartrending noun, theirs is a controlled pain, familiar to anyone with a penchant for late nights and messed up encounters. The band’s guitar-oriented pop-rock is shot through with some serious bleakness, like early what Garbage was shooting for before they failed and started to suck.
As an adjective, “cinematic” usually gets sprayed on post-rock acts, but critics have been giving Dolores the treatment. They probably brought it on themselves, referring to YouTube videos as their influences. “It’s about creating a series of images,” says singer Teresa Cobo. “There’s a story there, but we don’t want it to be explicit.”
