NOISEY 108: LOS ESQUIZITOS
Date: 2011-08-05 | Venue: Cafe Central | Location: Oaxaca, Mexico /* | Genre: rock */ ?>
Los Esquizitos
For a long time, the Mexico underground was dominated by the sounds of cheesy surf rock. From the excessively respected Lost Acapulco to new characters like as Joe Volume, almost all of them have sunk their feet in the beaches of surf rock. The difference here is that Los Esquizitos were there first.
Apart from their fashion sense and tendencies, Los Esquizitos are best known for their ridiculous lyrics and pop culture references, hypnotic drumming, and surf-punk guitar shredding. They cut their teeth at the legendary Foro Alicia club, which has been dubbed the “CBGB’s of Mexico City.”
After being away from the stage for a few years, and amid rumors of a breakup, Los Esquizitos are touring with a new album. Some of the songs on Tu Quieres Ser Como Yo are new and original, the others are bizarre covers, twisted and squeezed to fit the band’s crude and wild rock ‘n’ roll vision.
