There's something great about darkened spaces. Whether it's a theater or a nightclub or a carnival ride, everything feels more intense in the dark. Maybe the darkness triggers some sort of primitive fear of predators, or maybe it's because our dreams involve things shifting from one thing into the next and approaching us out of dark spaces. Darkness offers anonymity too, allowing us to be who we really are. When you go out to a nightclub or concert hall and the lights are dimmed and the music is loud enough that you can't hear anything else, it's a sensory deprivation experience that sends you into an almost dreamlike state, if it's done well. Outdoor music festivals will never capture what you can experience in a small club at night. Here are photos I took of women at shows.
