iTal tEK's 2014 is Going to be Even More Prolific Than Last Year

He's got a bunch of stuff in the works, including a new album under a different name.

We’ve been supporting iTal tEK for about a minute, hosting one of his mixes on Touching Bass and filming a mini-doc on him for our Lost and Found series. The producer brings new meaning to the word prolific. Blood Line EP, his first release, grabbed the attention of electronic music label, Planet Mu, and built on dubstep's concrete foundations with elements of glitchy techno.

Earlier this week, he played for a bunch of lucky people who were at the Dark Wolf even for mens fashion wear brand Ada + Nik. Because we wondered just how iTal tEK would deal with playing to a fashion-centric crowd, we headed down to ruminate on his performance, and what’s next for him in 2014.

Noisey: How did last night go?

iTAL tEK: It was wicked, it was nice to do something a bit different. I haven’t really played at too many of those kind of parties before. I’m used to playing club nights, but it was great. I didn’t stay overnight at the hotel though, I might go back next weekend for the pillow mint.

Did you tailor your set differently for a fashion, rather than club, crowd?

I played at the after party, not during the actual catwalk. They had some bespoke music for that. The crowd were open-minded so I just did my thing and people seemed well into it. It was an incredibly well-dressed crowd, more so than normal.

You’ve released an impressive amount of material in the past few years, are you planning on being as prolific this year or are you going to have a bit of a rest?

I’ve already finished my next record which is an EP that’s gonna be coming out on Civil Music label. That will probably be out in a couple of months. I wrote it last summer and it’s made up of some tracks that were left over from the Control LP from last year and are in the same vein. I’ve been getting good reactions when I’ve been playing them live so I just wanted to get them out. Then I’m starting work on a new iTAL tEK album and also another project which is a different kind of thing for me. I’m not going to say too much about it but it will be under a different name and will also hopefully be out this year.

That’s ridiculously productive!

It’s funny because it would seem so, but I don’t feel that way. There’s a lot of messing about when you’re making music and I guess I focus on that more than the productivity side.

Apart from making us feel lazy do you have any other plans this year? Are you going globe trotting?

I’ve got quite a few bookings coming up, hopefully I should be getting out to Australia this year and some more club nights around Europe, keep the ball rolling.

Jealous! Catch you in a bit!
