A Record Label Nearly Saved the Day and Snatched UKIP's Website

Alcopop Records seized a golden opportunity to take back web-space from the Far Right. Then GoDaddy fucked them over.

Britain woke up this morning to find that Ukip, the far-right leaning party led by the spectacularly moronic politician-cum-celebutard Nigel Farage, had forgotten to pay their web-hosting bill. To anyone that’s followed the party’s trajectory, such simple-mindedness should be expected and today’s blunder presented a golden opportunity to help diminish the increasing possibility that such underdeveloped leaders (the kind that can’t pay a web bill) could soon be running the country. The domain ukip.org was up for grabs - free to be turned into anything. Visiting GoDaddy.com earlier today, I found that ukip.org was for sale for the small fee of £160.62. Great – that’s a small price to take away the main-landing site for a party that believes last year’s floods were caused by the legalisation of gay marriage and Lenny Henry should go back to a black country. Unfortunately I am poor and can’t afford dinner for two, so I sent out a tweet imploring those with disposable income to buy the domain instead.

Someone with disposable income please buy http://t.co/bvXSOXQn9J before they renew the page. It's £168.62 on http://t.co/cYX63IqaJt.

Roll around to lunch-time and an independent label called Alcopop Records stepped in to save the day. They report that they’ve purchased the domain and posted screengrab confirming ownership of UKIP.org on their Twitter. The record label are based out in Oxford, they won the Association of Independent Music Award for Small Label in 2013, and they’ve worked with the likes of Johnny Foreigner and Anamanaguchi.

People on Twitter saying this website isn't going to go through. May not (im no expert), but here's the order conf x pic.twitter.com/PG8YxF0BAC

Unfortunately, Alcopop Records posted another tweet just now stating that GoDaddy, despite initially accepting payment, have snatched the domain name away again. We’ve contacted Alcopop Records for comment but they haven't replied, so it’s wise to assume that UKIP probably have control of their website again. Alcopop Records will have to find some other way to take on Britain’s new xenophobic overlords. Maybe they can use the thousands they’ve probably made from Fight Like Apes 7”s to fund some attack ads OR SOMETHING.
