Lil Yachty Had the Time of His Lil Life at the Met Gala

Welcome to Lil Boat's Big Night Out.

Besides the actual sun, there is no source of joy in the world right now brighter and more sustaining than Lil Yachty. You can bathe in the glow of Lil Yachty's extremely happy smile, and listening to his feature on D.R.A.M's "Broccoli" is scientifically proven to be a legitimate vitamin D boost. It's facts, sorry.

So of course, The Artist Also Known as Lil Boat brought that energy all the way to the Met Gala, which took place in New York on Monday night, to provide a much needed injection of fun amid all that Extremely Serious Fashion and complete misinterpreting of the Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons tribute theme (I'm not mad, just disappointed). He also wore a top hat and carried a cane like he's yung Fred Astaire – in a way, he kind of is, but that's an essay for another day – and thankfully he also documented his evening, via Instagram, like any decent and benevolent King of the Teens would:

First up we have Yachty hanging out with his big sis La La Anthony, looking extremely slick. I'd like to take this moment to thank Jeremy Scott for gifting us Lil Yachty in an white tuxedo, like the most extra boy at prom, because in these trying times, this level of 'too pure for this world' is what we all need.

Next Yachty ran into genius of our times Frank Ocean and former Pepsi spokesmodel Kendall Jenner and grabbed the coveted Frank selfie, which is pretty much like finding a rare Pokémon. Props.

Yachty took some time out with the unanimously-voted Queen of the Met Gala Rihanna. Please note their fun and jokey demeanour around each other. Obviously, they are best friends and if anybody needs me I will be writing a sitcom where they share an apartment and a small dog.

Lil Yachty did not come to play. He was here to get the best behind-the-scenes pics and the best pics he got. The Kim K photo is not an easy one to pull off but here he is, and he even got her to pull a cute face. 10/10. Bravo.

Finally, here's the Big Kahuna. One of the coolest things about this year's Met was the show of young talent, and this picture, featuring Yachty, the Migos and two hip-hop legends in the shapes of Sean Combs and Pharrell, is actually quite an #emosh one, kind of like a passing of the torch but also just because they all look extremely fly. Also Pharrell showed up to the Met Gala like he was going out to dinner and I respect it.

We can all generally agree that in terms of 'lewks', Rihanna came out on top at this year's ball. Jaden Smith, carrying his own dreadlocks as his date, deserves a mention too. But there's something special about seeing Yachty, who some still consider too goofy to be a "real rapper" taking his seat at the table and doing his bit for the culture by staying true to himself at an event that's traditionally crafted for the Anna Wintours of the world. So basically, the moral of the story is: cancel all your plans and stay at home, and instead just understand that the Goodest Night has now been had, by one Lil Boat, Esq. You will never have as good a night as Lil Yachty had at the Met Gala. Apologies.
