Premiere: Halifax's The Wayo Cover Spooky Black's "Without You"

The Canadiana jazz group utilizes influences from multiple genres to create their cover of Spooky Black's "Without You"

For the last two years, The Wayo has bounced between Halifax, Montreal and Toronto with their brand of groove-funk and smooth-as-silk R&B. These young, trained jazz musicians utilize hip-hop influences often, as the quartet murders 50 Cent covers and features the raps of singer and saxophonist Charlotte Day Wilson.

Whenever The Wayo swing through Ontario, the band records on a Georgian Bay farm, which is where this cover of Spooky Black’s “Without U” was recently filmed. “We want to invite people into our creative space,” explains Day Wilson, “we all heard this song separately through strange internet searching and were all struck by how beautiful it was. We became obsessed with it and also with Lil Spookz’ mysterious internet presence. Who is he? Is he a troll? How does he have the voice of a butter angel?”
