Notable Crazy Person Courtney Love Is Taking The Muppets To Court

"The Muppets are raping Kurt Cobain's memory." Her words, not ours.

Courtney Love has been forced to battle a lot in her 47 years: drug addiction, tragic loss, free-falling public opinion, custody of her only child, and a grab bag of other scandals and legal woes. Now, it's the Muppets.

Love is taking Kermit and company to court over the allegedly unauthorized use of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in their recent The Muppets film release, despite the fact that both Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, Nirvana's surviving members, have given screenwriter Jason Segal the thumbs up.

Following the 1994 suicide of her late husband Kurt Cobain, the Hole frontwoman was granted control over commercial use of Nirvana's seven-year catalog. Technically, this should mean an open-and-shut case for Courtney, but things get dicey when you call into play the fact that, back in 2006, Love sold 25 percent of her Nirvana music holdings (as well as distribution rights) to a music publishing group called "Primary Wave Entertainment" in an effort to help pay off her financial troubles.

It's not that Courtney is on her last leg and needs the money; if she chose to sell her remaining shares of the catalog, she would find herself with a cool $162 million cash money in her pocket. And it's not that she wants to hang on to the rights for sentimental value; back in 2011, it was reported that Love was considering ditching her holdings as she was convinced that her royalty kickbacks were "cursed."

So what's this all about, Court? Still bitter that Oscar the Grouch copped your style?
