Jeffrey Innes of Yukon Blonde has a New Band Called High Ends

The solo project from Jeffery Innes of Yukon Blonde sounds distinctly distant.

Well, it looks like Jeffrey Innes of Canadian band Yukon Blonde, has launched a solo project called High Ends. Innes’ latest single “The Weight,” which was “leaked” online early last week, is a slow-burning 80’s- inspired dance pop track. Awash in tuneful croons and shimmering synths, it’s a step in a different direction for Innes who has become know for penning hook-laden, radio-friendly indie rock.

Distinctly distant, however delivered with complete conviction against a backdrop of swooning electronic syncopations, humming guitars and hallow drumbeats, Innes’ vocal stylings seem to suggest, as the lyrics do (“the weight is gone / I fall to my knees”), a complete sense of release. There is just such a sense of movement about this track; it’s like a fierce longing cascading towards its pinnacle.

While there is no word yet on a full-length release, High Ends will be on tour with Library Voice this June, with a full North American tour slated for the fall.
