Photo by Julie PeelHailey Wojcik is a woman of many talents. Her self-produced, self-engineered new EP Book of Beasts is a dark, whimsical little nugget of punky-pop goodness, conjured up almost entirely by Michigan-born, Brooklyn-based Wojcik, who describes herself as a "Songwriter. Singer. Queer femme. Zookeepers' kid. Canine enthusiast." Brian Viglione of The Dresden Dolls and The Violent Femmes held it down on drums while Wojcik handled guitars, vocals, lyrics, and drum machine. Her voice is sweet and knowing, with more than a little bite. Her first video for "XO, Skeleton" is full of dancing bugs. Really, what's not to love? The cassette version of Book of Beasts is out today on Wiener Records (grab the self-released digital version here) and we've got a full stream here for your enjoyment.
