This Invasion Day Stream Andras Fox and Lewis Fidock’s ‘Coloured Stones’ Mix

From desert reggae, to 90s house, and stomping rock, listen to a celebration of the amazing diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples music.

While many Australians spend January 26th eating, drinking, listening to the Triple J Hottest 100 and ‘celebrating’ Australia’s history since European invasion, for our nation's first people the day is a commemoration of deep loss. A loss that includes their sovereign rights to their land, their family, and the right to practice their culture.

Andras Fox and Lewis Fidock acknowledge this loss. The Melbourne radio announcers and musicians have put together an amazing mix of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples music.

While the two understand that they are in no position to make commentary, their mix [made in mid-2015], celebrates the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people music. Featuring artists such as Archie Roach, Coloured Stone and the Lajamanu Teenage Band, a Warlpiri group from Lajamanu in the Northern Territory, the mix includes everything from desert reggae to 90s house, and stomping rock.

As Andras says in the mix notes,“The refusal to celebrate Australia Day is part of an ongoing fight for the recognition of the abuse of Indigenous people's rights. If nothing else, we hope this mix serves as a tasteful alternative to the JJJ Top 100 countdown (and a reminder that white Australia has a black history)”.
