Wymyns Prysyn, Orange is the New Gritty Punk

After some lineup changes and waiting around the Atlanta punks are ready to release their debut LP.

Though they’ve been doing their thrashy punk/80s hardcore squall since 2010, things have seemed rather sporadic and bumpy for Atlanta’s Wymyns Prysyn over the last few years. After a standout appearance on the Scavenger of Death records Land of Nod compilation (that included other great Atlanta bands such as GG King, Bukkake Boys and Gentleman Jesse) Wymyns Prysyn have suffered from lineup changes and a longish wait between recording and album release.

But they are keeping things in the south for their debut LP Head in a Vice released on Miami label Drugged Conscience records and on cassette through hometown label Muckman.

Listen to the lead off and album title track “Head in Vice” and read what bassist Josh Feigert has to say.

Noisey: “Head in a Vice”. Bourbon, taxes, fantasy football, girls, life?
Josh Feigert: Bourbon: one of us yes, one ex-bourbon drinker, one beer drinker. All hell raisers.
Taxes: Obama is hologram
Fantasy football: I played Aussie rules football with Cuntz one time behind the bar we work at.
Girls: one of us is practically married, one of us uses a dating site. We like taking a lady on tour with us to balance the scales a little bit.
Life: too many fucking humans.

You tend to have music writers reaching for the ‘kinda KBD influence with a touch of early hardcore”. Will this be the same on the new record?
The album is a departure while still sounding like it was created by the same band. We like our ambiguous skin when it comes to being defined. It allows us the possibility to play with a pretty diverse pool sonically. The album is much darker, dystopian and K. Dickian. I sing on half the record which is a change as the only other vocal recording of me was on the Land of Nod comp. But yeah just as much Bobby Soxx love as the Wipers, No Trend, or Carbonas. Add some synth, tape manipulation, better recording quality that’s still pretty blown out and you'll may be in the same state. What do you think of the Falcons chances this year?
What’s with you Aussies and American sports? Upon arrival of the new Low Life LP, (which is easily the best of the year) I asked Cristian from the band why the song "No Ambition" was missing. He replied that he had accidently deleted it while making space to download a Knicks game on his computer! Bah! But for real my 13 year-old son keeps me in the Falcons loop. His mom's dad provided ice cream machines for the players training camp, so my son is cool with some of the players.

"Head In a Vise" is available now through Drugged Conscience.
