We Asked Eagulls For their Five Favourite Bands from Leeds

With their debut Australian tour around the corner the lads give us their favourite music acts from the Capital of the North.

Eagulls are proud to call Leeds home. The city on the river Eire has a rich music history centred around buzzing student life and a cost of living that is reasonable for a city of it’s size. Over the years Leeds has produced it’s share of quality punk bands with Gang of Four, the Mekons, the Wedding Present and the Sister of Mercy all being loiners (a demonym for someone who pronounces worse as "wairse" and nurse as "nairse").

With their debut Australian tour around the corner we asked the Eagulls lads about their five favourite local music acts.

The city of Leeds helps breed bands today just as it did decades ago. Whether it's likeminded artists joining forces in the noisey basements of run down but cheap accommodations or the creative minds bumping heads whilst studying for useless university degrees, in it's own strange way the city will always be known for its prosperous music scene. Here are five bands from the past that we like and think you should know about.

The Pale Saints – “You Tear The World In Two”
From the 1990 album Comfort of Madness.

Chumbawumba – “Liberation”
Before the infamous “Tubthumper” they were an anarcho band living in a squat in Armley. This is from their Revolution EP released in 1985.

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry – “Hollow Eyes”
From the Talk About the Weather/ Paint Your Wagon LP

Soft Cell - "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye"
Marc Almond. Enough said.

The Sisters Of Mercy – “The Damage Done”
Here is a demo of what was to become The Sisters Of Mercy.
