There's Straight Talking and Then There's the Raw Nerves

Are the Auckland punks revealing a more sensitive side? The short answer would be 'no'.

Auckland City garage punks the Raw Nerves say it how it is. With songs like “Nobody Gives a Shit About You” and “Fuck Brooklyn” they’re like the Louis CK of K Road.

Their latest album More Nerves continues a love of simple but loud rock’n'roll, doo wop, surf rock and brutal honesty. Led by the energetic and soulful Rory Treadaway, the four piece are equally as comfortable writing songs about love as they are wizards.

They sent us the new album to play and were cool for us to publish it before it’s release on Monday June 22. Have a listen and enjoy your weekend.

Noisey: There seems to be a more sensitive side on your new album.
Rory Treadaway: Look emotions are hard. We might try to be tough guys but deep down we're unravelling. I'd say this record is aggressively misanthropic.

You look pretty handy making homemade sausage in your last video. How did it turn out?
They were delicious! I ate mine with hot sauce but they'd be ace with a classic creamy mash. It’s been a while since your last album.
We did an EP after the first record but other than that it's been pretty quiet up until now. Nobody is homeless. We recorded this in two days last year but it takes so long to get records pressed at the moment. Is “I Love This Town” in reference to Auckland? If so what is there to love?
Too right it's about Auckland. We live in a beautiful city. The lyrics speak for themselves: people are generally courteous on the bus and if you want to have Malaysian food on a Monday night then you can damn well go and get some Malaysian food on a Monday night.
